History
It was an establishing gift of $2,050 that formed The Eagles Mere Foundation, a private foundation in 1986. This visionary creation was a collaborative effort of Bill Albertini, Fred Godley, John Lundy, Bob Ryan and Jim Stoudt with the purpose of providing a permanent charitable reserve to help preserve, protect and enhance the unique character of Eagles Mere.
For the next twenty years, the Foundation grew, largely through memorial gifts, into a fund that successfully fulfilled this vison by making annual grants for such community needs as planting trees to hosting a youth music competition.
In 2006, the Eagles Mere Foundation changed its status to a community foundation. This designation gave the Foundation more flexibility when it comes to grant making. It also permitted the establishment of donor advised and agency endowment funds. Allowing donors to name a fund and advise the Foundation on the distributions. Donors may be an individual, a family or a community organization.
In the short time that these services have been available, many families, individuals, agencies, and other non-profits have created funds for the long-term sustainability of the mountain-top community we all cherish.
